PRECIOUS SCARS

“Precious Scars” was inspired by the Japanese practice of kintsugi where broken pottery is repaired with laquer and gold. The gold highlights the story of the vase and frames the breaks as something to be celebrated instead of hidden away. In this collection of work I’m celebrating the aging and story of each rose by adorning the wilting petals in 24 karat gold leaf. The roses in my work are a vehicle for self expression and my life’s experiences; this work is no different. We are all built of our personal experiences including the breaks and cracks and it is very often these scars are the most valuable and precious to our growth.
